Clayfield College Overview

Clayfield College is one of Queensland’s leading schools providing a tradition of quality education. Founded in 1931 Clayfield College celebrated its 75th Anniversary in 2006. The College caters for girls from Pre-Prep to Year 12 and boys from PrePrep to Year 6. The College also caters for girl boarding students from Year 5. The College has a strong academic emphasis where students are encouraged to set and achieve personal goals within the academic arena. Class sizes ensure more attention can be given to each individual child’s needs. This approach has successfully ensured high academic results over many years for Clayfield College students. The Christian beliefs of the community support the personal development and fulfilment of each student’s life both during their time at school and upon completion of Year 12. Kodaly music teaching methods are employed from Pre-Prep to Year 12. Emphasis is placed on the care and nurturing of the individual. All teachers take an active interest in the well-being and general development of each student.

Our aim at Clayfield College is to challenge our students academically through enquiry and engagement, whilst nurturing an intellectual curiosity of the world around them. We offer a stimulating academic curriculum, and comprehensive co-curricular opportunities for our students to pursue their interest in sport, the arts, and service leadership.

The College has a strong academic focus, where our students are encouraged to set and achieve personal academic goals. Through our extension learning programs, we offer a broad range of activities that foster essential enquiry skills, such as problem solving, creative thinking, flexibility and tenacity. Our relatively small class sizes also ensure that more attention is given to each individual student. But, more importantly, learning is for life, not just for school. Our Pastoral Care Program focuses on a holistic approach which encourages our students to develop commitment, self-discipline, self-motivation and a sense of social responsibility. We encourage our students to be happy, laugh often, work hard and give back to the community.

Ultimately, what Clayfield College offers is an opportunity for your son or daughter to explore their full potential. Our highly experienced staff have the passion, drive and ability to inspire and guide, him or her, to be the very best they can be.

Clayfield College offers a stimulating curriculum that incorporates innovative learning experiences, and an understanding and acceptance of individual skills and talents. Our aim is to provide every child with an outstanding teaching and learning environment by supporting the diversity of our learners with contemporary teaching styles. Our Teaching and Learning Programs inspire our students to achieve their academic potential through a range of learning experiences that engage, excite and challenge them.

"My daughter, Olivia, is a boarder in Year 7. Prior to her attending Clayfield College she has always attended a small school in western Queensland, where I (as a parent) have known all of her teachers personally and have had much involvement with all aspects of her schooling. Sending your child away is a daunting experience. Not knowing the staff, or understanding the new routines and expectations, and not being there to support my daughter to the extent that I have in the past is at times a little overwhelming for me. Your staff should be commended on their actions. Every email, call and letter is received with much gratitude. It all helps make this adjustment period so much easier on us all."

Shining OP Achievements at Clayfield College

In September 2016, The Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association announced the appointment of highly qualified Mrs Kathy Bishop to lead the staff and student body as the sixth Principal of Clayfield College.

Kathy has over 35 years’ educational experience including roles as Acting Principal at Clayfield College and executive positions at Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School and St Margaret’s Anglican Girls’ School.

Kathy is very proud and honoured to accept her new role and aims to challenge the students academically though enquiry and engagement, whilst nurturing an intellectual curiosity of the world around them

Kathy’s favourite quote to her Clayfield students is “Be happy, laugh often, work hard and give back to the community.”

Clayfield College’s motto “Let Your Light Shine” is exactly what the 2016 Year 12 cohort has done delivering outstanding OP results. Kathy is very proud of the strongest results ever for the OP 1-5, OP 1-10 and OP 1-15 range, 23.1 per cent of the Clayfield College 2016 graduates achieved an OP 1 or 2 and 50 per cent achieved an OP between 1 and 6.

“I have a clear vision that when students leave Clayfield, they leave as students of honour with a global network through the contacts they have made either by way of mentors or overseas exchange programs,” Kathy Bishop said.
