Our College was founded in 1994 and is part of the system of Lutheran Schools in Queensland. As well as serving Lutherans in North Queensland, Torres Strait Islands, Papua New Guinea and further afield, Peace is a College with a mission to serve other Christian and non-Christian families in providing a quality Christian education for all.

SPORT

Core Sports Program introduces students to various activities and skills them for various games.

Inter-school Sports Program: Inter-school sports teams for various age groups which compete in FNQ competitions include Cricket; Volleyball; Tennis; Basketball; Netball; Rugby League; Rugby Union; Soccer; Touch Football; AFL and Futsal.

Year 6 & 7 Students – Are eligible to participate in the Barron River District sport Gala Days.

Year 7, 8 & 9 Students – Inter-school sport during terms 3 and 4 on Wednesday afternoons. Teams are selected and trained during term 2.

Years 10,11 & 12 – Inter-school sport during terms 1 and 2 on Wednesday afternoons.

District Competition: Students aged 10 years to Open age are actively encouraged to trial for District Sports Teams offered through the Barron River District and Trinity Coast North District Associations.

Swim & Survive Programs:

Prep to Year 7 Students – Undertake swim and survival skills at Marlin Coast Swim & Leisure Centre.

Year 5 Students – Participate in a surf lifesaving program in coordination with Cairns Surf Lifesaving (SLSC).

LANGUAGES

Prep to Year 6 Students – Japanese

Year 7 to Year 9 Students – Japanese or Spanish

INSTRUMENTAL TUITION

Private music lessons are available to all students, including piano; keyboard, drums, percussion; vocal; guitar/base guitar; strings; singing; clarinet. Lessons are offered according to the need and availability of a teacher.

Peace Boarding is a place where our students can feel safe; where they are free to pursue their studies and gain lifelong friendships.

Our boarding community has been an integral part of the life of our College for the entire history of the school. It has not merely been accommodation for boys and girls at the College but has in itself been a positive educational experience.

At Peace, we believe in maximising the opportunities for boarders by allowing them the flexibility to manage their time to experience all that living in Cairns has to offer, for example, part-time work, outside sporting/cultural activities or extra study programs or courses.

The number of students accepted into Boarding from each school year level is capped. This ensures our Boarding has a healthy balance of age groups and gender. This balance is essential for forming friendships, as well as the emotional growth and maturity of each of our boarding students and it also helps to keep the student make-up of our boarding houses as close as possible to a home environment, with siblings.

Our Boarding Facilities - We offer co-educational boarding facilities across four boarding houses - two houses for boys and two houses for girls. The houses are organised so that our Year 7 to 9 students are in the junior boarding houses and our Year 10 to 12 students are in the senior boarding houses.

We have boarding places for a total of 86 students - 44 girls and 42 boys.

We have a boarder's dining hall situated close to each of the boarding houses and our in-house chef and catering team prepare a varied menu of meals, made from locally sourced produce and designed to provide students with the energy their developing minds and bodies need.

Our boarding students also have access to a Recreation Centre for socialising. The room is fully airconditioned and contains a pool table, air hockey table and table tennis table. The students also have access to PlayStation, Xbox and Wii gaming consoles. Also on site is a recreational swimming pool and volleyball courts.

Learning in Boarding - Students come to Peace Boarding, first and foremost with the intention of leaving having successfully completed their secondary education.

Students are in an environment where it is possible to seek and gain guidance and assistance with academic work, work independently in a quiet and conducive atmosphere and have access to modern educational facilities and resources at all levels of their schooling.

Boarding students have a set routine to help them get the most from their academic studies:

• A certain amount of study must be undertaken each week
• Dedicated study sessions are also supervised in classrooms
• Boarding house parents liaise with teaching staff to ensure students are working to achieve their best

A multicultural environment. We have students from around Queensland and other states of Australia, Cape York and the Torres Strait, PNG, Indonesia, Asia, Africa and India, to name but a few areas.

Opportunities to Grow in Faith - Boarding students attend church on Sundays either at the Trinity Lutheran Church or at worship services held at the school's Peace Centre. Students also have evening devotions and youth groups. The College Pastor and Congregational Pastor are also actively involved with our Boarding community.

Care & Wellbeing - Our Boarding staff are dedicated individuals who bring a strong commitment to their boarding houses. As well as our dedicated Boarding House Parents, we also have a School Nurse (Registered Nurse) and Student Welfare Officer on campus.

Sport & Being Social - Peace Boarding provides a number of sporting and social opportunities through club sports, as well as school-based teams, including rugby league and rugby union, touch football, netball, basketball, and AFL, with social activities scheduled each school term, including ten pin bowling, roller skating, laser tag and trips to the beach and Tablelands communities and attractions in the Hinterland region.

Peace Lutheran College Boarding is an active and vibrant group of students and dedicated staff.

It has been said that the pastoral care and support offered to our students is unmatched.

We pride ourselves on the genuine care and nurture of every child in our care; we are concerned for each individual; providing a safe place for them to learn and grow. Our Pastoral Care Program looks to build life skills and equip students for challenges they may encounter.

The College holds Open Days and Information Events throughout the year, however, we particularly enjoy personalising a tour just for you.
