Choosing the right school for your child is a big decision. You want the right fit; a school where your child’s needs will be met, where they will be given the individual attention they need and have opportunities to thrive and excel in all aspects of their education.
At Ipswich Girls’ and Junior Grammar School, students are provided with every opportunity to discover their individual potential whilst getting the support they need to develop into confident, well-educated young women, girls and boys.
Personalised learning is a major focus of the School’s ethos. Every student is known, and every student has a Personalised Learning Plan that focusses on their holistic development and identifies areas of strength and challenge in their knowledge and skills base.
Each student is supported to continually strive to achieve their personal best at their level of learning, no matter what that level may be, and to be well-mannered, kind and diligent in all that they do.
The School’s vast campus includes an Early Education Centre that offers co-educational Kindergarten and Pre-Prep programs to three and four-year-olds, alongside Ipswich Junior Grammar which is Queensland’s only co-educational Grammar primary school, catering to boys and girls from Prep to Year 6. Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School, caters to girls only from Years 7 to 12 and offers boarding from Year 5.
It is family-friendly school offering the best of both worlds – co-education in the early learning and primary years to allow younger family members to learn and grow together, and girls only education in the secondary years, which research tells us is associated with better learning outcomes and improved social and emotional wellbeing.
As part of the School’s family-friendly approach, it recognises the needs of busy families and offers a flexible Grammar Plus boarding program to girls in Years 5 to 12, which is in addition to the regular weekly or full-time boarding offered.
The Grammar Plus program offers families the option of late pick-ups, where the students are supervised through afternoon co-curricular activities, dinner and supervised study, as well as overnight stays from a single night, to a few days, or weeks.
Ipswich Girls’ and Junior Grammar School is a high-performing school.
Academically, it is consistently one of the region’s finest, with NAPLAN, OP and tertiary outcomes among the best in the state. In 2017, six IGGS Seniors received an OP 1, 37% of the OP-eligible cohort attained OP 1-5 and 76% were awarded OP 1-10.
As part of the School’s focus on holistic education, more than 50 co-curricular opportunities are offered to students across academia, sport, community service and the Arts. There is an activity to suit every child and their interests.
Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School is part of the QGSSSA, Queensland’s premier schoolgirl sports competition, whilst Junior Grammar is part of Andrew’s Cup and the Britton Shield, both of which offer high quality competitive sport opportunities for students.
When selecting a school for your child, we encourage parents do their research, speak with current parents and staff, attend Open Days or arrange a personal School tour.
We are often told by our new families that is the intangible ‘feel’ of the School’s respectful, caring community that confirmed their decision to enrol.
There is no better way to understand our School’s unique culture, that has been developed
by our past and present students, their families and our dedicated staff over 126 years, than to experience it in person.
Ipswich Girls’ and Junior Grammar School is now enrolling for 2019 and beyond from Prep to Year 12, and from 2020 for Kindergarten and Pre-Prep.
Discovery Tours are offered each term, as well as Open Day in March and personal tours at any time that suits you. A scholarship program runs December – March for following year entry for secondary students (check online for details).
For more information, to book a personal tour, or to enrol your child please contact Enrolments Registrar Mrs Fleur Brooks on (07) 3454 4401 or visit www.girlsgrammar.com.au or www.juniorgrammar.com.au.
All Ipswich Girls’ and Junior Grammar students have a Personalised Academic Action Plan. Learning support and challenge and extension programs are offered.
IGGS girls meet once per term with senior teaching staff to discuss their goals and progress, taking an active role in their learning journey. Our teachers know each student by name, and have an in-depth understanding of their indivdual needs and learning goals.
The School offers an Early Education Centre for Kindergarten and Pre-Prep children, a Foundation Centre for Prep and Year 1 students, and a purpose built Junior School Centre for boys and girls from Years 2 to 6.
Junior Grammar students have a Bright Sparks Workshop where they undertake specialist E-STEAM lessons each week, and a Junior Grammar Library. There is also Outside of School Hours Care, and plenty of natural play spaces including a beautiful rainforest.

For families that need flexibility and convenience, we also offer casual, weekly and daily boarding to girls from Years 5 to 12. As a boarder, your daughter will be safe, comfortable, well-fed, highly supervised, academically and socially supported.
Cribb House is a multi-level, home-away-from-home fitted with essential security features and alarmed every evening. Cribb House is situated in the middle of our campus and overlooks the city of Ipswich and the School’s extensive, landscaped grounds. Recently renovated, Cribb House enables us to provide girls with modern and comfortable living quarters.
Our girls eat healthy meals planned by our nutritionist and made fresh in our Dining Hall each day.
Your daughter’s health and wellbeing are paramount, and our dedicated teachers, counsellors, nutritionist, registered nurse and experienced boarding supervisors and staff are all on hand to take good care of her.
Throughout her learning adventure she will have academic support and access to resident staff each evening to assist her with homework over a nightly, two-hour supervised study session.
We understand she will need time to herself and part of the structured life in our boarding community is down time. Our boarders are encouraged to become involved in the School’s many co-curricular and socialise with friends.
Boarding will foster your daughter’s independence and personal growth under the watchful eye of our teachers and mentors. From the moment she joins us she will become part of a special, inclusive community where she will make lifelong friends.
At Ipswich Girls’ and Junior Grammar School, dedicated teachers guide our students through an academically rigorous but engaging curriculum, designed not only to achieve high academic outcomes but nurture resilience, respect and responsibility.
Each student has a Personalised Academic Action Plan, ensuring they have the support they need to achieve their individual best. Middle and Senior School students have regular one-to-one interviews with senior staff to discuss their goals and progress, taking an active role in their learning journey. Learning support and challenge and extension programs are offered.
Our staff work as a team to nurture your child’s special talents and support their challenges and individual circumstances.
The one-on-one relationship between our class teachers and their students, along with smaller class sizes, ensures all our students get the care and attention they deserve.
Our youngest Junior Grammar learners are allocated a ‘Big Buddy’ from an older Year level to welcome and look out for them, whilst our Girls’ Grammar students are allocated a ‘Big Sister’ to help welcome them to secondary school.
IGGS girls also participate in our Life Skills Program, based on the Positive Psychology framework, designed to encourage optimism and build resilience.
Should your child become ill, hurt or upset we have a full-time, registered nurse on hand in our comprehensive Health Centre. Our nurses also take an active role in teaching the children about hygiene and other health related issues. The School may liaise with other specialists, for example paediatricians, occupational therapists and speech pathologists to support individual students should the need arise.
