Solid foundations for future success - Through respecting individual learning, embracing and encouraging every child's unique skill set, and developing the whole person.

Experience has shown us, that when a child is surrounded by nurture, respected for their individual learning and made to feel important, known and valued, they will have solid educational foundations.

Our College fosters a culture of inclusiveness, embracing the diversity of our multicultural fabric, and offering an environment where every student belongs.

We accept that we are all unique and strive to use these qualities to develop each child as a whole person, taking into account their academic, social, emotional and spiritual well-being.

This connected learning approach empowers our students by allowing them to identify the learning environment that suits the way they learn best.

Our philosophy and aims are to provide a holistic and equitable learning experience in a caring and safe environment. Our curriculum and pastoral care programs enable students to become confident and creative individuals who set themselves high aspirations and develop a deeper understanding of the purpose in the world.

Peace Boarding is a place where our students can feel safe; where they are free to pursue their studies and gain lifelong friendships.

Our boarding community has been an integral part of the life of our College for the entire history of the school. It has not merely been accommodation for boys and girls at the College but has in itself been a positive educational experience.

At Peace, we believe in maximising the opportunities for boarders by allowing them the flexibility to manage their time to experience all that living in Cairns has to offer, for example, part-time work, outside sporting/cultural activities or extra study programs or courses.

The number of students accepted into Boarding from each school year level is capped. This ensures our Boarding has a healthy balance of age groups and gender. This balance is essential for forming friendships, as well as the emotional growth and maturity of each of our boarding students and it also helps to keep the student make-up of our boarding houses as close as possible to a home environment, with siblings.

Our Boarding Facilities - We offer co-educational boarding facilities across four boarding houses - two houses for boys and two houses for girls. The houses are organised so that our Year 7 to 9 students are in the junior boarding houses and our Year 10 to 12 students are in the senior boarding houses.

We have boarding places for a total of 86 students - 44 girls and 42 boys.

We have a boarder's dining hall situated close to each of the boarding houses and our in-house chef and catering team prepare a varied menu of meals, made from locally sourced produce and designed to provide students with the energy their developing minds and bodies need.

Our boarding students also have access to a Recreation Centre for socialising. The room is fully airconditioned and contains a pool table, air hockey table and table tennis table. The students also have access to PlayStation, Xbox and Wii gaming consoles. Also on site is a recreational swimming pool and volleyball courts.

Learning in Boarding - Students come to Peace Boarding, first and foremost with the intention of leaving having successfully completed their secondary education.

Students are in an environment where it is possible to seek and gain guidance and assistance with academic work, work independently in a quiet and conducive atmosphere and have access to modern educational facilities and resources at all levels of their schooling.

Boarding students have a set routine to help them get the most from their academic studies:

  • A certain amount of study must be undertaken each week
  • Dedicated study sessions are also supervised in classrooms
  • Boarding house parents liaise with teaching staff to ensure students are working to achieve their best

A multicultural environment. We have students from around Queensland and other states of Australia, Cape York and the Torres Strait, PNG, Indonesia, Asia, Africa and India, to name but a few areas.

Opportunities to Grow in Faith - Boarding students attend church on Sundays either at the Trinity Lutheran Church or at worship services held at the school's Peace Centre. Students also have evening devotions and youth groups. The College Pastor and Congregational Pastor are also actively involved with our Boarding community.

Care & Wellbeing - Our Boarding staff are dedicated individuals who bring a strong commitment to their boarding houses. As well as our dedicated Boarding House Parents, we also have a School Nurse (Registered Nurse) and Student Welfare Officer on campus.

Sport & Being Social - Peace Boarding provides a number of sporting and social opportunities through club sports, as well as school-based teams, including rugby league and rugby union, touch football, netball, basketball, and AFL, with social activities scheduled each school term, including ten pin bowling, roller skating, laser tag and trips to the beach and Tablelands communities and attractions in the Hinterland region.

Peace Lutheran College Boarding is an active and vibrant group of students and dedicated staff.

It has been said that the pastoral care and support offered to our students is unmatched.

We pride ourselves on the genuine care and nurture of every child in our care; we are concerned for each individual; providing a safe place for them to learn and grow. Our Pastoral Care Program looks to build life skills and equip students for challenges they may encounter.

Focus areas include:

• Having high expectations of self and others.
• Respectful relationships with caring adults.
• Moral values enable our young people to discern right from wrong.
• Social boundaries and opportunities for social service.

These traits build resilience when our young people face life's challenges.

We run a number of well-being and resilience programs and have support structures in place to meet the specific developmental needs of students in our Junior School, Middle School and Senior School.

Our dedicated teaching and pastoral care team will also be on your child's learning journey with them, providing them with a complete education.

Our pastoral care staff and teaching team work closely together to ensure our students are settled and can concentrate on their studies. This is all done in conjunction with our parents and caregivers, reinforcing to the children in our care that both school and home are working together to support them.

It is this commitment to the overall wellbeing of our students that is a strong point of difference for our school.

PEACE, EXCELLENCE, RESPECT, COMMUNITY
We value Peace, Excellence, Respect and Community by nurturing grace, harmony and high aspirations, and by showing respect for all through the building of positive relationships.
"To be at the forefront of effective and innovative education; empowering tomorrow's citizens, today."

This is achieved through our education model, which is a progressive approach to learning; adopting modern-day education transformations that connect classroom learning to real-life, better-preparing students for their future after school.
"To develop resilient and compassionate young people who use God's guidance to contribute positively to our community and the world."

It is through this mission we aim to offer a quality schooling experience where God's love for every person is evident and informs all that we do.
Principal's Image

It is the aim of our school to offer your child a quality schooling experience where God's love for every person is evident and informs all that we do.

Developing the whole person is at the heart of what we do at Peace, ensuring our school is a place where everyone feels valued; a place where everybody is somebody.

Education is at an exciting point in its history. The future that we are preparing young people for is dynamic and rapidly changing. What skills, attributes and values do our young people need to develop in order to successfully prepare them for the world around them?

In a world that is ever-changing, we see our core values of Peace, Excellence, Respect and Community as foundations for a successful and purposeful life. Together, our approach to excellence in teaching and learning, our co-curricular offerings and our heart for community service, serve to inspire students to be curious about their learning, courageous when faced with challenges, and Christ-led in their relationships.

At Peace Lutheran College, our staff is our strength. We have a team of professional, passionate, experienced and caring staff who are committed to encouraging wellbeing and the pursuit of success - academic or otherwise, and to developing young men and women of character in a Christian community. We recognise that strong relationships create an environment in which students can thrive and achieve their potential in whatever subjects or areas of study they are pursuing.

I warmly invite you to visit Peace to discover for yourself why we are constantly acknowledged for our school's peaceful, friendly and welcoming culture and to further explore how we may partner with you on the learning journey for your child.

Mrs Elisabeth Fenske
Principal

Every day is an Open Day at Peace Lutheran College!

We pride ourselves on the personal, individual attention offered to each and every one of our students and we like to also extend this same consideration to every person who visits our school.

The College holds Open Days and Information Events throughout the year, however, we particularly enjoy personalising a tour just for you. Every parent and child of every family has different needs, individual apprehensions, different questions and their own expectations, and on a personal tour, we can discuss these in detail and know you are leaving with all the knowledge you require.

We encourage you to contact us to discuss your needs or book your very own College tour. If you are unable to visit, we invite you to take a virtual tour of our school.

Our Enrolments Team are always on hand and happy to assist you in any way they can. Please don't hesitate to contact them by phoning +61 7 4039 9000 or via email should you have any further queries.

The Rite Journey

The Rite Journey is an innovative program that supports students as they transition into young adulthood and complements the roles of parents and caregivers.

It is an extension of our junior secondary Pastoral Care Program, specifically for our Year 9 students, and provides the opportunity for these young people to deeply explore themselves, their peers and how they relate to the wider community around them. It is designed to acknowledge, celebrate and guide the transition into adulthood.

Students come together in small groups, in an environment that is safe and comfortable for them to share thoughts, feelings and ideas with their peers and foster connections with positive adult role models.

Working in conjunction with parents and care providers, this unique educational program is designed to support the development of self-aware, responsible and resilient young adults, aiming to provide them with an amazing foundation to flourish into the future.

Program Achieve - You Can Do It

Embracing mutual respect for the beliefs of our multicultural school and its Christian ethos, this principle is supported by a social/emotional program - “Program Achieve – You Can Do It” - teaching our Junior School children skills that contribute to their happiness through five foundational skills:

  1. Confidence
  2. Persistence
  3. Organisation
  4. Getting along
  5. Emotional resilience

These five foundational attributes teach children the skills that contribute to their happiness.

Year 10 Work Experience Program

All Year 10 students participate in a structured work experience program. Work experience is a great way to sample real work in an industry of their choice.

Peace Lutheran College has an exceptional record of producing academically talented students in readiness for entry to university.

Our students have access to experienced staff who can support and guide them towards achieving the necessary requirements to gain entry into their chosen university course.

In partnership with external providers, we are able to offer a range of opportunities to our students enabling them to gain nationally recognised industry qualifications whilst still at school.

At Peace Lutheran College we value excellence and we encourage our students to set high aspirations in all that they do. As a result, we are one of the highest-performing schools in Cairns.

Academic Excellence

In 2021, an outstanding 97% of results were 'A' to 'C' grades - 20% of General Subject results were 'A' grade, with a further 36% 'B' grade. In addition to this, 100% of full-time students within our 2021 Year 12 cohort were awarded a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

These results are evidence of the hard work and commitment of these students, as well as the care, attention and dedication of their teachers who have journeyed with them and their families who have supported them.

What our students say...

"I've felt supported through the obstacles of high school. I've built strong friendships and created memories that will last forever." - Ziian, Boarding School Graduate

"I am infinitely grateful to my parents for enrolling me at the College. I have watched Peace change immensely over my 13 years as a student. Even with its growth and improvements, somehow Peace, in its essence, has remained the same extraordinary place.Peace has continuously been the largest part of my life. The tight-knit and friendly environment allowed me to know everyone well. It was something so essential for success in my studies and something so difficult to say goodbye to." Sofia, Graduating Student

"Peace is diverse, we care about each other and don't isolate people who might be different. Each person is supported to be their best." - Jacob, Graduating Student

“I came to Peace Lutheran College as a Boarding student from grade 7 and boarded until I graduated in grade 12. I have had a great time and have made some great friendships. I found Boarding creates more friends and stronger relationships between students. Another student in my Boarding House has become one of my closest friends. Boarders participate in really good weekend activities – I enjoyed paintball, going to the cinema and watching the Cairns Taipans play. I also got involved in Club Basketball, playing alongside other Peace students who were also Boarders, and I also played Touch Football. The teachers also provide great help when preparing for exams and assignments. And Boarding provided a lot of study time which really helped me stay on top of my studies. The College has provided me with a great education which will help me with further study. I plan to study Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Queensland (UQ)." - Jacy, Boarding School Graduate

What our parents say...

"Peace is very real, there is no pretence, you genuinely care and show that you do." - Parent of Junior School student

"So impressed. At a difficult time, you reassured our children, supported our family and kept us positive." - Parent of Middle School student

“Well it’s the end of week 2 for us and I wanted to take a quick moment to say thank you. I cannot believe how quickly Sam has settled and what a positive change we are seeing in his personality already. It’s a real reflection on the values and expectations of the children, teachers and organisation of the school.” - Parent of Junior School student

“There is a great atmosphere in the school, the teaching staff are approachable and collaborative and there is opportunity to develop good parent/teacher alliances. We were impressed with the school’s understanding of the future of education and its focus on the whole child to identify individual learning needs. Both our boys have developed very positive relationships with their classroom teachers and have found a balance between learning and fun. They have adapted quickly to their new environment, mostly I believe, because the school has a great sense of community and the children have been made to feel welcome.” - Parent of Junior & Middle School students

“I’ve found one of the greatest things about Peace is the emphasis on the family. The College has created a solid family orientated environment which is very important for the students and their parents. My children have settled in well at the school and are very keen to tell everybody how wonderful it is. They speak so highly of their teachers and other staff as well. I would recommend Peace Lutheran College to all families as I am confident that their children will be cared for and nurtured in a healthy environment, as my children have been.” - Parent of Middle & Senior School students
