Plumbing students from Australian Trade College North Brisbane have just finished re-roofing the Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA) House at Petrie as part of a joint project proudly sponsored by MRAEL Group, QCWA and the Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Lead by their Trainer, Andrew Callanan, the ten aspiring plumbers worked over four weeks to complete the project. They carried out everything from erecting and dismantling scaffolding, removing rusted roofing sheets and guttering through to the installation of insulation and the new Zincalume corrugated roof sheeting. The students were also responsible for cleaning up the worksite following the completion of the project.

The project encouraged teamwork, communication in the workplace, work health and safety and achieving a goal as a group, as well as the overall contribution to the community

“This (project) has provided the students with hands on experience in their trade in a real life project environment. It was great to see them working together to overcome challenges,” Mr Callanan said. “Not only has the project given the students confidence in their chosen trade career, but also an understanding of working in a team to achieve a common goal.”

Although the project involved many early mornings and late afternoons, Australian Trade College North Brisbane students all agree the end result was well worth it!
